Do We Even Want Sponsors?

Yes. But not the kind that turns the show into a coupon code delivery service.

Can you work with sponsors without turning into an advert?

Let’s be clear. We’re open to sponsors. We’ve got bills, gear, and caffeine habits to fund. But we’re not going to become one of those podcasts where half the runtime is “today’s episode is brought to you by…” followed by thirty seconds of forced enthusiasm about a VPN no one actually uses.

There’s nothing wrong with making money from content. Everyone’s time is worth something. But when you can predict the sponsor before the episode even starts, you’ve stopped listening to a show. You’re just sitting through branded noise.

If we do this we want it to make sense. Games, hardware, services we actually use. Not some start-up trying to gamify life insurance or a beard oil company pretending to be edgy. If we ever say we like something, it’ll be because we actually like it. And we’ll say no to stuff that doesn’t fit. Even if the money’s good.

We’re also not going to make you sit through long reads. No podcast voice suddenly pretending to be excited about socks. No fake conversations wedged into the intro. If we work with sponsors, it’ll be clear, short, and honest. It’ll never be 90 seconds of cringe at the top of the show.

That said, we’re also not precious about it. We’re not trying to be martyrs for the cause of pure, sponsor-free content. We’re just trying to avoid being fake. If there’s a company or project that fits what we’re doing, something that lines up with our audience and doesn’t make us lie through our teeth, we’re interested.

So if you’re reading this and thinking “I’d like to sponsor these grumpy old gamers,” we’ve got a page for that. Sort of. It’s not live yet. But it will be soon.

And when it is, you’ll find it right here. Get in touch. Let’s talk.
